Hi There! I'm Kendra Minadeo, an illustrator based in Los Angeles, CA.
Mostly a self-taught artist, I grew up in the wintry tundra of Alberta, Canada and had the pleasure of mentoring under a handful of very cool artists. There I learned to work in a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil, and watercolor. Additionally, I worked in a host of theater, dance and filmmaking productions both onstage and behind the scenes. These experiences inspired to me to pursue filmmaking and was awarded a production grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts to create a short film series exploring a wide range of experimental filmmaking techniques and the delicate phases of mourning.
In my illustrations I continue to work with a mix of mediums; scanning in bits and pieces, compositing, and illustrating digitally with traditional style brushes. I enjoy working with textures, subtle layers, halftones, simple continuous lines, and bold shapes. I like my characters to convey plenty of emotion, a touch of silliness, and wit. I love to make people all warm inside, or cry. Or both!
Graduated from Grant MacEwan University's Arts and Cultural Management program in Alberta, Canada.
Lived in Akron, Ohio for 7 years and started a non-profit film organization and festival with a handful of dedicated compatriots. The organization today stands as Akron's premiere alternative cinema venue called The Nightlight.
After moving to Los Angeles, I helped upstart and manage a small Themed Entertainment Design Firm (Designing theme parks. Yup, theme parks!)
I love a new notebook, a good pen, a latte and someone to make it for me.
